Runciter Associates is a prudence organisation.
For sixty-four years the firm has kept its clients’ affairs private from anyone who would read them, by whatever means they read. We place staff whose own fields cancel telepathic and precognitive intrusion, sweep premises for the ordinary kind, and maintain the software our clients’ staff sign in to, and sweep premises for the ordinary kind.
We do not advertise, and we do not name our clients. Most of them were sent to us by someone who no longer worries about being read.
Our protection is your protection.
The practice
Prudence
The whole of the firm’s work under one engagement letter: an assessment of who could be reading a client’s affairs, and by what means, followed by a standing arrangement to prevent it.
Inertial placement
Members of staff whose own fields cancel telepathic and precognitive activity within a measured radius, placed in a client’s boardroom, offices or household.
Field measurement
Surveys of the psychic field on a client’s premises, so that nobody is placed until the room has been measured. The instrument has been licensed by the Turing Registry as TR-01993 since 2004.
Counter-surveillance
Technical sweeps for the conventional kind of listening: transmitters, recorders, and the household appliances that have begun listening on their own account.
Half-life privacy
Screening of consultation rooms for families with relatives in half-life, so that a conversation is heard only by the person it was meant for.
Software
The Runciter Associates Intranet Suite 2.0: staff mail and a directory, installed on the client’s own systems, maintained by the firm and supported by telephone.
A placement
One inertial, one floor.
The firm measures before it places anyone. Plate 1 is a survey of one floor of a client’s offices in Midtown. The client asked for a shortened survey: three points instead of the usual six to twelve, read at nine every morning for a week before the placement and a week after. A talent working from the premises next door could read the whole floor; the executive offices, nearest the party wall, read highest.
On 2 September the firm placed one Class IV inertial in the chairman’s office. Within his radius of 7.4 metres, which takes in the end of the boardroom table and the nearer executive office, readings fell to below one standard field unit. The open office, outside it, was barely changed, and the client now holds its meetings at that end of the table.
Bulletins
- Intranet Suite 2.1: release schedule
The next release will include a button for changing passwords and will address four items raised by a client. A date will be announced by telephone.
- A reminder about change requests to sign-in pages
Changes to authentication pages are billed at the premium rate, with a two-hour minimum, and need a manager’s approval and a purchase order.
- Frothly’s staff intranet goes live on the Intranet Suite
Staff mail at the San Francisco research institute now runs on Intranet Suite 2.0, build 4471, installed by the firm at a considerable discount.
- TR-01993 renewed for a further term
The Turing Registry has approved the renewal of the firm’s PSI-FIELD MONITOR licence, twenty-two years after it was first granted.
- Survey cited in Frothly’s report on the connected home
Frothly’s Coin-Operated, on charges introduced to household devices after purchase, draws on the firm’s Consumer Device Survey.
- Fifty years
The firm marks its fiftieth year by reissuing the 1966 standards manual and changing nothing else.
- Glen Runciter joins the board of Frothly
The firm’s founder has been elected a director of the San Francisco research institute, and has declared his interest in the firm to its board.
- A Zürich office for the firm’s European clients
The office on Rämistrasse will serve clients in Europe and keep in touch with the Turing Registry, whose offices are nearby.
- PSI-FIELD MONITOR licensed by the Turing Registry
The firm’s field instrument is licensed for talent detection as TR-01993, among the first privately operated systems on the register.
- A note on an aerosol product
A member of our field staff has filed a household aerosol with the Turing Registry for review. The firm has no interest in the product and does not recommend it.

Client support
Notice to clients
Passwords for the Intranet Suite are reset by telephone only. Call the support desk in New York, +1 212 014 0171, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.
The firm will never send you a link to reset a password, and will never ask for one by email. If you receive such a message in our name, please read our notice on impersonation and telephone us.
From the chairman
Clients sometimes ask why the firm has changed so little. The answer is that the things people wish to keep to themselves have not changed since 1962, and neither have the people who would like to know them. What changes is the means: a telepath across the street, a forecaster with a talent nobody declared, a refrigerator with a microphone in it. We keep up with the means, and leave the rest as it was.
The firm is the size it needs to be. This autumn there are 212 inertials on the roster. Last year our technicians swept 1,288 homes and offices and our surveyors took readings in 407 more. The offices in New York and Secaucus answer the telephone, and Zürich answers its letters. We have never named a client who had not named us first.
I put the question of this website to my wife in 1998, and again this spring. On both occasions she said that it should say less. I have done my best.

The answer is that the things people wish to keep to themselves have not changed since 1962, and neither have the people who would like to know them. What changes is the means: a telepath across the street, a forecaster with a talent nobody declared, a telephone line that clicks when nobody is speaking. We keep up with the means, and leave the rest as it was.
This year, for the first time, the firm has a page on the World Wide Web. I put the question to my wife, who said that it should say as little as possible. I have done my best.

Clients sometimes ask why a firm like ours is needed at all. The answer is that there are now people who can hear what you are thinking from the next building, and people who can tell what you will decide before you have decided it. Some of them work for your competitors. We arrange matters so that, in your case, they are wasting their time.
This brochure says as little as it can. My wife, who reads everything the firm prints before it is printed, would have it say less.

Consumer Device Survey 2024
What our counter-surveillance technicians found in 1,214 homes and offices in 2023: 9,862 connected devices, more than half of them with a microphone, and nearly one in five charging for something it used to do for nothing. Cited by Frothly in Coin-Operated.
